Scary Movie is back! Franchise will be rebooted 11 years after Scary Movie 5 was released

Scary Movie is being rebooted, 11 years after the last film - Scream 5 - was released in theaters.

The new take on the famous franchise was revealed by Paramount at CinemaCon on Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount will distribute the movie and Miramax is financing it, per the outlet.

The movie, which will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, is expected to start filming in the fall.

Scary Movie was developed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans.

They wrote and directed the first two installments of the franchise.

Marlon and Shawn starred in the first two films as well.

Scary Movie was released on July 7, 2000, and served as a parody to hit horror films at the time, including I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream.

The film starred Carmen Electra, Shannon Elizabeth, Anna Faris, Jon Abrahams, Reginal Hall and Kurt Fuller - in addition to Marlon and Shawn. 

Scary Movie became a huge worldwide hit, with over $278 million at the box office.

Scary Movie 4 dropped on April 14, 2006, with Anna, Regina, Leslie, Carmen, and also Molly Shannon, Bull Pullman and more.

Keenen directed Scary 1 and 2, with David Zucker directing 3 and 4, and Malcolm D. Lee directing the fifth film.
